Step 2 – Becoming Aware

Tracking Your Food

AWARENESS IS THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS CHANGE

Becoming aware of your current eating habits is the only way to determine where to start when overhauling your current diet.

If we don’t take the time to track our food whether is be via a food diary or my fitness pal all we are able to do is make uneducated guesses as to where to implement changes.

Tracking your food allows us to see daily habits continuously reoccur throughout your week.

It also allows us to draw a straight line from point A to where we want to be at point B. This then increases the accuracy of the changes we make as the habits are laid out in front of us.

Like all things in life, our current diets are formed by our belief system, our environment and the habits we have developed over the years of our existence.

There is no one diet that works best. There are no quick fixes. The best approach to improving our nutrition and therefor improving our body composition is through small changes implemented consistently until they form a new habit.

Once we have tracked our food for a few weeks we are able to see where we may currently be going wrong, chose one particular habit, and work on implementing a strategy to overcome it and form a new, healthier, more powerful one that will take its place.

Once that change no longer becomes something we need to think about or remind ourselves of that, we can tackle the next and so on. This process leads to long term, sustainable results, that doesn’t have us feeling like we are on a strict diet.

So whats the best option of tracking ?

This all depends on YOUR personal goals!!!

If you are looking to get shredded, have a low body fat % and improve your performance in the gym, then using my fitness pal will be the go. This allows us to get more specific with your calorie and macro nutrient intake. My fitness pal also acts as a great educational tool for you to become more aware of what foods contain what macronutrients, calories etc

If you are just starting out, looking to drop some body fat and wanting to develop new healthy eating habits and form a balanced diet that suits your lifestyle, then simply filling out our lifestyle diary, and starting a food journal that you and our nutritionist can run through on a weekly basis is your best bet.

Regardless of your choice, writing down what you are eating and being able to see what you consume at the end of the day or week, is eye opening and a must to successfully make the changes you need.

Please either download the lifestyle diary from our drop box link below

or

Install My Fitness Pal on your smart phone. If you are unsure how to set it up watch the video tutorial in the section ‘How to Use My Fitness Pal’ and our nutritionist will calculate your calories and macronutrients [/text_block]
